Hello Peter,
Regarding "Manage storage configuration" permission, I investigated more internally and we do have a defect (FP-746) which is tracked in the backlog to change 'Mange Storage Configuration' Role Right to allow users to do specific actions (e.g. store vials) but not add/edit/delete storage configuration.
We can also consider how naming rights across storage could be better controlled.
I encourage you to submit an idea of improvement to our portal, https://freezerpro.ideas.aha.io/ on this topic.
Unfortunately, currently the right to move boxes and subdivisions across freezers is entangled to the name/rename possibility for freezers/subdivisions/boxes, so I do not have a workaround or a fix for this now.
The only way you currently have at your disposal to restrict the renaming is either to remove this permission completely from the user Role, or to put the user into a Group with "no access" or "view-only" permissions on Freezers and Subdivisions, but both options will prevent them to move boxes across subdivisions and freezers as well.
Have a good day.
Best regards,
Alina TEPEI

Dear Alina,
Thank you for getting back to me.
Yes we have seen the permissions allowed to users when they get "Manage Storage Configuration" added to their role.
Can you tell me how to restrict them from making changes to the institute's freezer infrastructure (points 3 and 4 on your list below), whilst still allowing them to work with and move their own boxes?
This is essential to our work. Assistance much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Peter
