Currently, the right to create a derivative seems to be attached to the 'Manage Sample Types' right. We would like to be able to give permissions to create derivatives without giving permission to create sample types, as sample types are tightly controlled.

The ability to create an ad-hoc derivative was decoupled from the Manage Sample Types right in FreezerPro 8, FP-432.
Yes this would be a wise fix from Brooks.
The separation of "Manage Sample Types" and Create Derivatives would be a great initiative. Currently our institute cannot use the Create Derivatives function as we dont allow users to manage sample types in order to mantain standardised sample types throughout the organisation.
